Don't deal with 'fake' Haj, Umrah service providers

Haj mission set up to assist pilgrims

The Sultanate of Oman has set up a Haj mission headed by Sultan bin Said al Hinai, the current head of the mission, to assist pilgrims, according to a decision from the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.

The decision stipulated that Sultan bin Said al Hinai shall be the Head of the Mission, Dr Ahmed bin Ali al Kaabi as Deputy Chief of Mission for Administrative and Financial Affairs, and Abdulaziz bin Masoud al Ghafri as Deputy Chief of Mission for Pilgrims Affairs and Haj Campaigns.

The decision was in implementation of Royal Decree No 6/99 defining the powers of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs and approving its organisational structure, and the Civil Service Law issued under Royal Decree No 120/2004 and the Executive Regulations of the Civil Service Law issued under Civil Service Council Decision No 9/2010, Ministerial Decision No 236/2004 promulgating the system of forming Omani Haj mission and determining their competencies.

The Omani Haj Mission lends support to pilgrims and assists them when performing the rituals.

The ministry has also warned of 'fake' or unlicensed companies that advertise on social media about providing Haj and Umrah services. It has urged people to deal with only licensed companies through the electronic registration system for pilgrims of Oman.

The ministry has recently released the list of those eligible for the Haj for the 1445 AH.

This year's Haj mission will comprise representatives from the ministry, ROP, Oman Scouts, media, medical, and various Haj companies.

'Omani Haj Mission which comprises the head of the mission, his deputy and his adviser, will be responsible for drawing up general policies for the work entrusted to the mission,' said Ali al Hattali, communications officer at the ministry.

'Formation of the Haj Mission is part of the preparations of the annual pilgrimage this year and the mission will also be taking care of and supervising all the services needed for the pilgrims,' he said.

The ministry has reiterated pilgrims and Umrah performers from the country to contract only with licensed companies through the online registration system for safer experience of the pilgrimage.

'We request all pilgrims and Umrah performers to contract only with companies licensed through www.hajj.om, and not to fall prey to the false promises of fake companies operating in this sector,' he said.
