Festival to boost Al Dhahirah tourism, showcase cultural richness

Muscat: Al Dhahirah Tourism Festival 2024 will kick off on February 15, offering a range of activities, heritage and entertainment programmes and tourism experiences.

Najib bin Ali al Rawas, Governor of Al Dhahirah and General Supervisor of the festival said the festival aims to hold events that contribute to tourism attraction and shedding light on the cultural and historical heritage of Al Dhahirah Governorate.

'The aim of holding this event is to introduce the tourism components of Al Dhahirah Governorate, exploit its diversity and uniqueness, highlight the competitive advantages of the governorate’s states and create a distinctive entertainment and tourism outlet for visitors,' he said.

'This is in addition to contributing to supporting the governorate’s resources and creating added value for the benefit of the local community by creating jobs for entrepreneurs, owners of small and medium enterprises, and productive families,' he added.

He explained that more than 100 young men and women from the governorate will participate in the management and organisation of the festival.

Shaikh Dr Saeed bin Humaid al Harthy, Wali of Ibri and chairman of the Executive Committee of the festival explained that this festival is the first-of-its-kind at the level of Al Dhahirah Governorate, as it will include a heritage village, areas for electric games for adults and children, shopping, kiosks designated for small and medium enterprises, restaurants, and a theatre for various artistic and theatrical performances.

There will also be poetry evenings, juggling games, and children’s competitions, in addition to the Smurfs’ village, acrobatics shows in addition to paragliding shows and horse racing, as well as laser shows, classic cars, circuses, carnivals, military music and folk arts from the wilayats of Al Dhahirah Governorate.

Naseer bin Ali al Siyabi, Director-General of Al Dhahirah Municipality and Chairman of the Festival’s Organization and Services Committee explained that the selection of the festival site was made according to specific criteria, including ease of access to the site and its distance from traffic congestion, as the site was prepared with more than 600 parking spaces.

The site provides electricity, water and telephone services; administration and security offices; prayer rooms with restrooms for men and women and a first-aid room.

The festival’s logo was launched, which symbolises the shape inspired by the tombs of Bat, which are the most prominent heritage landmarks in Al Dhahirah Governorate while embodying the basic pillars of sustainable development for the governorate, in harmony with three main colours yellow, brown and turquoise.
