MUSCAT: The first edition of 'Tahayem Winter Season' will take place from January 25 to February 3 in the Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate.

Various government and private entities are participating in the event to provide a unique tourism experience that harmonises with the natural and cultural characteristics of the governorate. The event is part of the efforts to enhance the role of the governorates, achieve economic diversification, and align with Oman Vision 2040.

Giving details of the event, Mohammed bin Ali bin Amer Akaak, Wali of Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan, and the head of the organising committee for the Tahayem Winter Season, said that this season is part of strengthening the role of the governorates in the context of decentralisation trend.

He added that it also aligns with the efforts to maximise the role of tourism and enhance its contribution to the national economy within the framework of the economic diversification policy, according to Oman Vision 2040. This is a translation of the Royal directives emphasising the need to focus on tourist sites in the governorates and develop suitable plans for organising activities and tourist events that attract visitors to those locations.

Akaak emphasised that this event aims to introduce the governorate's tourist assets, exploit its diversity, promote tourism, attract investments in the tourism and service sectors, and highlight the competitive advantages of the sandy areas in southeast Oman. The season also aims to create distinctive entertainment and tourist activities for visitors, whether local or regional, in addition to supporting the resources of the governorate and generating added value that benefits the local community.

The season offers a unique experience in the governorate, characterised by vast stretches of dunes extending to the Arabian Sea, in addition to environmental diversity, cultural landmarks, and historical sites.

He said that the name 'Tahayem Winter Season' derives its symbolism from one of the famous desert villages in the governorate, which serves as a meeting point for desert travellers in the Eastern Sands. The season will witness various activities, including the largest exhibition for selling dates and honey, diverse cultural and artistic events on a dedicated stage, as well as competitions and shows for children.

He added that the season will also feature camel races in the Green Saih field in the Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan, a 'Rahhal' race for the endurance of camels, and a challenge for off-road vehicles in 'Tall Murhib.' There will be two sports championships for local teams in sand football and sand volleyball, in addition to a competition for juniors performing Omani traditional dance 'Al Zaffin' accompanying the art of Razha.
