SUHAR: The Sohar Festival kicked off its second edition on January 11, with a collaboration between diverse parties and the private sector. North Al Batinah aims to showcase its cultural, heritage, and sports aspects through the festival, drawing visitors from all walks of life.

The festival was inaugurated by Salim bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, along with Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of Al Batinah North.

The Sohar Festival unfolds as a month-long celebration at the Sohar Entertainment Center, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry and economic richness.

Mohammed al Kindi, Governor of Al .Batinah North highlighted that Sohar festival aims to create spaces for entertainment, cultural displays, heritage exhibits, and sports events, attracting visitors of varied interests.

The festival shines a spotlight on the youth's talents, fostering positive impacts on local trade, particularly in the tourism sector.

This year's festival introduces a set of new events spanning cultural, heritage, and sports domains alongside the entertainment range, aimed at achieving not just recreational but also substantial business goals. Attendees can participate in seminars, attend lectures, engage in training workshops, explore book fairs, and enjoy poetry sessions. The festival is also a platform supporting local producers, job seekers, and small to medium-sized enterprises.

To accommodate a growing number of local and international visitors, the festival has transformed the Sohar Entertainment Center into a permanent venue with features like the electronic dome, a grand stage, galleries, platforms, and dedicated spaces for participation from other Oman governorates.

Notably, a gaming zone and a children's theatre add family-friendly dimensions to the festival's offerings. Due to the Gaza war, the Sohar Festival has committed a portion of its proceeds to support those affected, and extend solidarity with the Palestinians.

The Sohar Festival 2024 provides a platform for local job seekers and offers 200 opportunities for employment aligned with its diverse activities. Over 160 productive families and 24 craftsmen from various Oman governorates actively contribute, underscoring the festival's commitment to fostering economic growth.

Projections suggest a visitor count exceeding 928,000, a testament to the festival's growing popularity and its vital role in promoting Al Batinah North's cultural and economic assets.
