MOH urges parents to vaccinate children on time

Muscat: The Ministry of Health's (MOH) Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Muscat Governorate has urged parents to bring their children to the health institution on time for vaccination to avoid infection with diseases that may be dangerous to a child’s health.

DGHS also called for Influenza vaccination for children aged 24 months and above as it will reduce the risk of influenza infection, severity, and serious complications of influenza and prevent the spread of influenza infection among family members.

According to WHO, immunization is a global health and development success story, saving millions of lives every year. Vaccines reduce the risks of getting a disease by working with your body’s natural defenses to build protection. When you get a vaccine, your immune system responds.

According to WHO, there are vaccines available to prevent more than 20 life-threatening diseases, helping people of all ages live longer, healthier lives.

Immunization currently prevents 3.5-5 million deaths every year from diseases like diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, influenza, and measles.

Immunization is a key component of primary health care and an indisputable human right.
