MUSCAT: A specialised medical team from the Directorate-General of Khoula Hospital in cooperation with the neurology medicine at Sohar Hospital, successfully performed an operation via cerebral catheterisation for a girl suffering from brain arterial dilatation at Sohar Hospital.

Dr Ahmed bin Hamood al Habsi, Consultant in Neuro-Interventional Radiology at Khoula Hospital, confirmed that the critical operation was performed at Sohar Hospital due to the availability of paediatric, internal medicine, cardiology, anaesthesia, neurology and neurosurgery teams in one place.

Al Habsi affirmed that the operation was successful and was performed under local anaesthesia because the patient suffered from heart and breathing problems with the support of the anaesthesia team at Sohar Hospital.

It took about one hour and a stent was inserted into the dilated artery which had previously undergone an operation at Khoula Hospital five years ago due to a brain haemorrhage.

It is worth noting that the cerebrovascular catheterisation service for strokes was launched at Sohar Hospital, and it is the first hospital in which this service is available outside the Muscat Governorate. — ONA
