JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed its condemnation of the continued crimes of the Israeli occupation and the genocide it carried out against the Palestinian people, which led to the death of six martyrs in Tulkarm, the occupied West Bank on Wednesday.
This is in addition to hundreds of martyrs who were wounded, most of them being women and children, all over the Gaza strip.
In a statement, the OIC has renewed its call for the international community to assume its responsibilities toward halting the Israeli aggression, ensuring sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid, confronting the attempts of forced displacement of Palestinian civilians, and providing protection for the Palestinian people, in implementation of the relevant UN resolutions.
The OIC said that the ongoing occupation's crimes and its targeting of facilities and those who work in the media and health sectors, as well as the UN, is a flagrant violation of recent decisions issued by the UN Security Council and the General Assembly.
The OIC also condemned the occupation's ongoing depriving civilians in the Gaza Strip of food, water, healthcare, protection, and other basic services.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces pounded central Gaza by land, sea and air on Wednesday and Palestinian authorities reported dozens more deaths, including 20 in one attack. Reflecting Israeli resolve to wipe out Hamas despite international calls for a ceasefire amid a humanitarian crisis, Israel's military chief Herzi Halevi said on Tuesday the war would last many months. There were 'no short cuts in dismantling the organisation,' he said.
A Gaza health ministry statement said an Israeli air strike killed 20 Palestinians on Wednesday near the Al Amal Hospital in Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.
A telecommunications outage in much of the enclave hindered efforts to reach Palestinian casualties overnight but was gradually coming back online at mid-morning.
In central Gaza's Al Maghazi district, five Palestinians were killed in one air strike, medics said, while to the north in Gaza City health officials said the bodies of seven Palestinians killed overnight arrived at Al Shifa Hospital.
Residents also reported heavy fighting east and north of the Al Bureij district and in the nearby village of Juhr Ad Deek, where they said Israeli tanks are stationed.
Meanwhile, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has called the ongoing Israeli onslaught in the Gaza Strip 'more than a war of annihilation' and blamed the United States for its continuation.
'Our people have not seen (before) such a war even in the 1948 Nakba,' Abbas said, using an Arabic term referring to Palestinians' mass displacement during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. 'Those who go to Gaza cannot recognise it now,' the head of the Palestinian Authority (PA) told Egyptian TV in an interview aired late on Tuesday.
'Unfortunately, whenever the world, the (UN) Security Council and the General Assembly try to stop this war, the US uses the veto and refuses to stop fighting,' he said. 'If the US wanted, it could make a gesture to Israel and Israel would stop it. We say to the Americans what is going on is happening with your support.' — Agencies
