Archeological findings dating back to the iron age unearthed
Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) announced on Wednesday a new archaeological discovery dating back to more than 4,500 years in the Wilayat of Wadi Al Maawil in the South Al Batinah Governorate.
The ministry has teamed up with Italian excavation researchers, who unearthed various archeological findings belonging to the Iron Age.
A statement issued by MHT said, “A joint Omani-Italian archaeological excavation team, supervised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, has announced the discovery of a set of distinctive archaeological findings, including a clay pottery, white beads and stone beads dating back to the Iron Age”.
According to al Moatasim al Hilali, Heritage and Tourism Director of South Al Batinah Directorate, the ministry has set a methodological excavation programme aimed at reaching new discoveries that are counted historic and cognitive treasures.
“These archaeological discoveries contribute to creating a new tourism product for the wilayat, in particular and the Sultanate of Oman, in general, as the governorate is renowned for many heritage components represented in the ancient historical sites, castles, forts, falaj, mosques and ancient houses.
