MUSCAT: The Royal Army of Oman (RAO) marked the Sultan’s Armed Forces Day which falls on December 11 each year under the auspices of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat, in Muscat.



A celebration was held on the occasion at the military celebrations square at Muaskar Al Murtafa’a. At the beginning of the celebration, the governor of Muscat received a military salute then the Royal Army of Oman (RAO) music band played the Royal anthem. The chief guest and the attendees saw samples of military training and shows which exhibited the skills of RAO personnel. Other events included tent pegging shows staged by the Sultan of Oman Armours, free paragliding by the Sultan of Oman Parachutes.

The ceremony also included traditional arts performances, recitation of poems glorifying the Sultan’s Armed Forces. The Royal Army of Oman Music Band performed a number of military musical pieces. The celebration saw self-defence shows and building-to-building fights staged by the Royal Army of Oman Academy and a mechanized infantry battalion. The Sultan of Oman’s Artillery exhibited field skills.



At the end of the ceremony, a number of modern military mechanisms and equipment were displayed showing the Royal Army of Oman’s readiness to defend the country and preserve its achievements.

The chief guest conferred medals of long service and good conduct on a number of RAO personnel in recognition of their efforts in performing their national duty. — ONA
