For Ali bin Abdullah al Siyabi there are many places suitable for winter tourism in Oman.
“It really depends on the interests and preferences of people. Some of them prefer places where temperatures drop significantly, such as Jabal Shams and Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, where temperatures drop below zero and there are opportunities for snow on some days. Some prefer camping in deserts like the Rub’ al-Khalii desert. However, tourism in such places requires a guide, especially in the Bidiyah desert.”
Al Siyabi said that checking out wadis during winter can be a challenge, and this is why not a lot of people visit because the water can get very cold, which strips the fun from the activities.
“There are many fun activities one can do during the winter. For me, the variety is excellent. From hiking to camping, from fishing to riding bicycles, and from watching concerts or attending festivals, there’s always something fun to do with the family,” Al Siyabi added.
Maryam al Kharousi believes that the best time to enjoy domestic tourism is winter, which is the time that everyone waits to visit tourist places in Oman.
Al Kharousi said that during winter, she ventures to different beaches as the weather is perfect for lounging on the shore.
“We can be at the Bimmah Sinkhole in Qurayat in one day or Wadi Shab the next. Hiking around beautiful farms like those in Tiwi, or boating somewhere in Sur or nearby areas are fun activities to engage in,” Al Kharousi shared.
Al Kharousi also recommended Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve as a winter destination because of the educational and fun interaction with sea turtles. Exploring Bidiyah in winter stands out as an unforgettable trip. Camping amidst its stunning sands remains a cherished memory for many who visited Oman. Winter tourism thrives, primarily in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, owing to its array of quaint towns and villages. Sur, especially in winter, offers a plethora of activities. Adventurers can tour Sur’s beaches aboard grand ships, perfect for families and youths. Evenings in Ras Al Hadd and Ras Al Jinz, renowned for turtle reserves, promise enchantment.
