MAFWR and OMIFCO sign two agreements for food security

Officials sign the agreements on Sunday.
MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) has signed two agreements with OMIFCO , the first one being a project financing agreement for poultry farming, for the rural women’s sector and the second one for the model grape farms project in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate.
Both agreements fall within the framework of the royal directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to consider the private sector as a strategic partner for the government in development, and the community partnership project for raising local poultry in Wadi Al Manqal in the Wilayat of Sur in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate sector with the aim of training rural women and raising their awareness about future ideas and projects related to investment in livestock such as local poultry raising.
This is aimed to contribute to enhancing food security with the aim of achieving self-sufficiency by providing local egg products and white meat, to providing job opportunities and raising the standard of living of families in these villages.
The cost of the project is RO 65,256 and Dr Ahmed bin Nasser al Bakri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry and Qasim bin Mohammed al Balushi, Strategic Director of Social Investment at the Oman India Fertilizer Company (OMIFCO) signed the deal in front of ministerial representatives and media.
The second financing agreement to the tune of RO 100,000 entered into by both parties for the model grape farms project in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate seeks to enable the local populace achieve self-sufficiency in confirmation of His Majesty’s continuous call for the Omanis to be the primary goal of development.
This agreement is also based on the importance of the partnership between the private sector and the government sector and is stemmed from the desire of (OMIFCO) within its ambitious programmes to improve community services and development projects to benefit the public and attain goals of community development, both parties said.
