Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has congratulated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on winning the bid to host the World Expo 2030 in Riyadh.

"Oman expressed its full confidence that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will organize this global event with the utmost competence and efficiency," an official said.

The success of the Saudi bid to host the Expo is expected to benefit the entire region and enhance the appeal of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries as hosts for major global forums and events, the statement said.

South Korea's Busan and Italy's Rome were also in the running to host the World Fair, a five-yearly event that attracts millions of visitors and billions of dollars in investment.
