MUSCAT: In a meeting to promote investment and engage with the entrepreneurial spirit of Omani youth, Ibtisam bint Ahmed bin Said al Faroojiyah, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Investment Promotion, recently met with students from Majan University College (MUC).

The meeting served as a platform for discussions on investment opportunities and the challenges faced by emerging companies, while also seeking innovative solutions.

At the heart of the discussions were the ministry's strategic plans aimed at facilitating and attracting investments in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.

As part of these efforts, the ministry has significantly reduced fees for 28 services offered by the National Intellectual Property Office, with a focus on catering to the needs of students and researchers.

An additional 29 services were made more accessible to small businesses, including patent applications, internal patent examinations, patent certificates, ownership transfers, assignments, patent renewals, utility model certificates, utility model applications, and industrial design registrations.

The meeting provided a platform for sharing success stories from student-led companies and exploring the critical factors contributing to the sustainability of these companies once students graduate. It emphasised the importance of academic specialisations in the economic and business fields at MUC, underlining their role in fostering a business environment that encourages competitiveness through a clear scientific methodology.

Such specialisations play a pivotal role in the development of leading Omani economic and business enterprises that significantly contribute to the national economy at all levels.

During the meeting, the Under-Secretary underscored the Ministry’s commitment to fostering collaborations and programmes that bring together emerging student company owners, higher education institutions, relevant authorities, and experienced professionals.

This aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and the government's focus on empowering young entrepreneurs, strengthening Oman's economic landscape, and nurturing emerging companies that are capturing the imagination of the nation's youth.
