MUSCAT: Based on the Royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Majlis Ash’shura will convene an extraordinary meeting on Thursday November 9 to elect its chairman and two deputies for the tenth term (2023-2027).

The members of Majlis Ash’shura will be sworn following which the chairman and two deputies will be elected via secret voting at the extraordinary meeting that will be chaired by the council’s eldest member. In case that the candidates failed to secure majority votes for the position of the chairman or the two deputies in the first round, a second voting round should be held and the positions should be filled by relative majority.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed al Nadabi, Secretary-General of Majlis Ash’shura, affirmed that Majlis Ash’shura will continues carrying out its national duties for the tenth term with generous support and great attention from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik as per the powers assigned to the council by the Basic Statute of the State and the Law of the Council of Oman.

Al Nadabi praised the procedures and mechanisms applied in the elections of the tenths term of Majlis Ash’shura and the active participation in the voting process which reached 65.88 of registered voters. He also commended the newly introduced electronic voting which was distinguished with accuracy and ease of use. — ONA
