MoHT declares Wadi Shab as a tourist area

Wadi Shab is about 140 kilometres from Muscat on the Qurayat-Sur coastal road.
By a ministerial decision, Wadi Shab, located in the Wilayat of Sur in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, has been classified as a tourist area.
Salim bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, issued the Ministerial Decision No. (1152/2/251/2023) after the approval of the Council of Ministers.
This decision is an important strategic step in achieving the ministry’s objectives in investing and developing national tourism resources and ensuring its sustainability.
The Minister of Heritage and Tourism said: “This decision comes within its powers under the Tourism Law in organizing and developing the tourism sector in the Sultanate of Oman. The ministry prepares necessary plans to achieve the desired returns on local communities and improve lives there through creating job opportunities and raising local added value.”
Nestled among the mountains, Wadi Shab is characterized by stunning nature with unique rock formations that were formed as a result of natural erosion, and there are many pools of warm blue water.
Wadi Shab is about 140 kilometres from Muscat on the Qurayat-Sur coastal road. The visitor can practice and experience several activities in Wadi Shab, including walking, swimming, and rock climbing.
Depending on the water level, you may have to get a boat to take you across to the other side of the car park, where you start the hike. There are villagers right at the car park who will take you across the pond.
