MHT has worked on designing initial concepts for developing the region and the next stage will include completing the detailed plans for its implementation.
Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has issued a ministerial decision 2023/251/2/1152 to designate the Wadi Shab area as a tourist destination based on the Tourism Law issued by Royal Decree 33/2002.
The Wadi Shab area located in the Wilayat of Sur in the South al Sharqiyah Governorate will be now a tourist area from the day the decision was published in the Official Gazette, which was on Sunday, October 22.
Situated less than 2 hours drive from Muscat on the Muscat-Sur highway, Wadi Shab is already a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists for its picturesque surroundings.
Depending on the water level, visitors can take a boat ride to the other side of the car park for a nominal fare. The fares include the return trip to the pick-up point.
With this decision, the Wadi Shab region will be developed in a sustainable manner and transformed into a popular tourist destination.
The ministry, after coordination with the competent authorities, has considered the proposals submitted for the management of the area for tourism development, taking into account the nature of the area in terms of the risks of torrents and floods.
Facilities to be expected at Wadi Shab.
In coordination with the Governorate of South al Sharqiyah and the Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran), MHT has worked on designing initial concepts for developing the region and the next stage will include completing the detailed plans for its implementation.
