Japan's Tomokazu Harimoto plays a return against Sweden's Anton Kallberg in the quarterfinal.
MUSCAT: The action in the WTT Contender Muscat 2023 will conclude on Saturday with the final matches in men’s and women’s singles and doubles. World No 23 Sweden’s Anton Kallberg stunned World No 4 Tomokazu Harimoto of Japan 3-2 (5-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 7-11) to enter the men’s singles semifinals on Friday.
Kallberg will take on World No 33 England’s Liam Pitchford who managed to earn ticket to the semifinals after beating Japan’s Sora Matsushima 3-1 (11-9, 11-4, 9-11, 8-11).
France’s Simon Gauzy (World No 27) sealed a berth in the semifinals as he defeated young paddler OH Junsung from South Korea 3-1 (11-5, 11-8, 8-11, 11-3). World No 5 Brazilian Hugo Calderano booked a slot in the semis as well as he registered a 3-0 win over Portuguese Joao Geraldo 3-0 (14-16, 8-11, 11-3). Simon Gauzy will take on Calderano in a tight semifinal clash.
In the women’s singles, Adriana Diaz (World Ranking No 12) beat World No 15 Japan’s Miwa Harimoto 3-2 (5-11, 12-14, 11-9, 12-10, 7-11) to move into final match after a tough clash on Friday at the indoor hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.
In the men’s doubles, Swedish duo of Anton Kallberg and and Kristian Karlsson progressed into the final after securing a straight-set win over England’s pair of Liam Pitchford and Tom Jarvis 3-0 (11-6, 11-7, 11-6). They will meet Germany’s Patrick Franziska and Dimitrij Ovtcharov in the final clash as the German pair stunned Hong Kong pair of HO Kwan Kit and Wong Chun Ting 3-1 (9-11, 5-11, 11-7, 6-11).
Turkiye's Sibel Altinkaya and Andrea Todorovic from Serbia confirmed their presence in the final of the women’s doubles as they defeated Hana Matelova and Barbora Balazova 3-2. The Hong Kong pair of NG Wing Lam and Zhu Chengzhu booked their slot in the final as they beat Huang Yi-Hua and Chen Szu-Yu from Chinese Taipei in the semifinal.
