Muscat: A delegation from the European Union (EU) on Monday visited Operation Atalanta’s frigate “Navarra” at Port Sultan Qaboos.

The visiting delegation comprised Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and several EU foreign ministers.

The High Representative of the EU expressed his appreciation for the Sultanate of Oman’s continuous support to Mission Atlanta. He underscored Oman’s ‘vital’ role in the success of the mission.'

He expressed his keenness to bolster cooperation with the Omani side, especially in the field of maritime security in the region and the Indian Ocean in particular.



On his turn, Shaikh Khalifa Ali al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, who accompanied the delegation during the visit, underlined the depth of Omani-European relations.

He added that Oman is constantly working with other countries to facilitate for peace and security.



Further, members of the delegation were briefed on the frigate’s history and its international roles within the scope of Mission Atlanta.

Moreover, the visit comes within the framework of the 27th session of the Joint Ministerial Council between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU), which will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) in Muscat.
