MUSCAT: Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) has collaborated with the National Academy for Training and Development to host a five-day workshop on 'Financial Data Manipulation' aimed at shedding light on the dubious practice of using creative accounting tactics to fudge a company’s financial statements.

Set to take place from October 29 to November 2, 2023, the workshop is aimed at CEOs, managers, financial analysts, as well as experts in governance, risk management, auditing, accounting, business owners, and those interested in the field of financial data. The workshop aims to highlight important aspects related to financial data and fraud.

It will cover several topics such as understanding the components of financial statements and analyzing them accurately, identifying and discussing potentially fraudulent activities in financial affairs. In addition, there will be a focus on fraud prevention and detection strategies and the development of robust anti-fraud programs.

The workshop will also discuss the Three Lines of Defense model in the field of financial data, which aims to develop effective strategies to combat fraud. Practical and applicable approaches will be taken through the study and precise analysis of real fraud cases, examining different fraud patterns, and using financial data analysis techniques to detect illegitimate patterns and trends.

The workshop aims to empower participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for financial data analysis and fraud detection. It will enable them to understand the mechanisms of manipulation, analyze unusual patterns in financial data, and utilize advanced tools and techniques for data analysis, fraud detection, and the development of effective strategies to mitigate financial risks and ensure the security and integrity of financial data.
