Suhar: A two-day workshop titled 'Job Localisation and Requirements of the Common Gulf Market' is underway in the Wilayat of Suhar, reflecting the Gulf Cooperation Council's commitment to enhancing employment opportunities for its citizens and promoting economic integration among member states.
The workshop, organised in coordination with the Office of the Governor of Al Batinah North and the Ministry of Labour, commenced on Tuesday with an inaugural ceremony attended by dignitaries, government officials, and experts from the region and beyond.
Shaikh Nasr bin Amer bin Shuwain al Hosni, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Labour for Labour, expressed his delight in hosting this significant event, emphasising its alignment with the GCC's efforts towards a unified Gulf labour market.
Job localisation is a key pillar of the Common Gulf Market Agreement, established in December 2002, which underscores the principle of equal treatment for GCC citizens in the private sector.
Dr Amer bin Mohammed al Hajri, Director General of the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labour and the Council of Ministers of Social Affairs of the GCC countries, highlighted the workshop's significance. He said that it addresses the challenges facing the Gulf region and its economies, seeking collaborative solutions that serve the implementation of GCC agreements and the aspirations of the region's leaders and people.
The second day of the workshop will centre on regional integration in labour markets, with a focus on international organisations' roles in promoting integration and employment policies. The European Union's experience in establishing a unified labour market will also be explored.
