SUHAR: The Organic Fig Farm project in the Wilayat of Suhar in North Al Batinah Governorate is one of the investment projects that utilize modern technologies. The project is an output of the Food Security Laboratory overseen by the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Water Resources with the aim of enhancing local figs production and supplying the local market with various agricultural products.
Yusef Mohammed al Miqbali, project Executive Chairman said the Organic Fig Farm project has an investment value of RO 150,000 and occupies an area of 16 acres. It is an integrated farm for growing fig trees and providing quantities of high-quality fig varieties including Brown Turkey fig, parchment figs and Jassim figs.
The project execution has already begun according to the executive plan which includes fencing the farm, digging wells, installing a modern irrigation network, and planting 4,000 fig seedlings in a first phase. An additional 5,000 fig seedlings will be planted by the end of this year and the plantation process will continue until reaching 16,000 seedlings on an area 16.5 acres. Once fully operational, the project will have a capacity to produce about 5,000 to 7,000 tonnes of figs annually, Al Miqbali said. — ONA
