Foreign minister receives officials on sidelines of UNGA

 
NEW YORK: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, received Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Vatican's Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), at the headquarters of the Permanent Delegation of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, on Saturday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed topics of common interest affirming their support to dialogue between civilisations and cultures and their commitment to the values of tolerance, understanding and respect of rules of international law and the United Nations Charter. They agreed to enhance constructive cooperation and common benefits for the good and harmony among nations.

Sayyid Badr also received Mohamed Salem Ould Marzouk, Mauritania's Minister of Foreign Affairs. They discussed cooperation relations between the two countries in various fields and ways of fostering them to serve the common interests of the two brotherly peoples. They also exchanged points of view on a number of regional and international issues.

Sayyid Badr received Miguel Moratinos, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC). They reviewed efforts being made to enhance understanding and tolerance and combat phenomena of hatred, intolerance and discrimination based on religion or race. They exchanged views on fostering cooperation and partnership between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations.



The foreign minister received Ivica Dacic, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia. During the meeting, the two sides discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance them and exchanged opinions and viewpoints on a number of current regional and international issues of common interest.

Within the framework of fostering relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Serbia, two memoranda of understanding were signed by the foreign ministers of the two countries regarding political consultations and cooperation in the fields of diplomatic studies and training between the two diplomatic academies.

Sayyid Badr also received Ahmed Attaf, Algeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs. They reviewed bilateral relations binding the two brotherly countries. They discussed various aspects of cooperation and ways of enhancing them and exchanged opinions and viewpoints on a number of current regional and international issues of common interest. They agreed to hold the next session of the Omani-Algerian Joint Committee within the next few months in Algeria.

The foreign minister of the Sultanate of Oman also received Sergei Aleinik, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs. They discussed the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries and ways to enhance them in various fields to serve the aspirations of both countries and discussed regional and international developments.

The meetings were attended by Dr Mohamed al Hassan, Permanent Representative of Oman to the UN, and Shaikh Humaid bin Ali al Maani, Head of the International Affairs Department at the Foreign Ministry, and officials from both sides. — ONA
