Sur hold Sohar, Al Wahda claim first win

MUSCAT: Omantel League leaders Sohar were held to a draw by visitors Sur 1-1 in the fifth round match at the Sohar Stadium on Friday.

Sohar initiated the match with a strong offensive stance, demonstrated by Mohsen Jawhar, who scored the first goal in the fourth minute, giving the home team an early lead.

The match progressed with intense pressure from Sohar as they attempted to secure a second goal. In the 10th minute, Sohar players passionately appealed for a penalty kick, but the referee opted against it. Sur retaliated swiftly and launched several dangerous attacks on Sohar's goal, ultimately equalising the score with a direct free kick executed masterfully by Firas al Mukhaini in the 20th minute. The first half concluded with an exhilarating 1-1 draw.

Sohar Club started the second half with high organisation in all lines and was able to take possession of the ball and had several opportunities that lacked the finishing touch. On the other hand, Sur Club played defensively and tried to exploit the rebounds, but both teams remained unsuccessful in securing the winning goal, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

With this result, Sohar's total points climbed to 11, while Sur accumulated six points, having a postponed match from the fourth round against defending champions Al Nahda. However, Sohar's lead is currently under threat pending the outcome of Al Seeb's match (9 points) against Dhofar.

OMAN CLUB EDGE IBRI

The first half witnessed a slow-paced game from both teams. Ibri players got several chances that missed the final touch to score. On the other hand, Oman Club played very slowly without any chances on the goal, it ended in a goalless draw.

The second half saw an improved performance from Oman Club, as they scored through Nigerian player Emmanuel Akshku in the 54th minute. Despite Ibri Club's attempts to equalise, they were unable to threaten Oman Club's goal, resulting in a 1-0 victory for Oman Club.
