MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Capital Market Authority (CMA), will host the annual Middle East Health Insurance Conference 2023 for the third time in a row later this month. Organised by the Middle East Insurance Review, the forum will take place from September 24 – 26, 2023 with wide participation from regional and international stakeholder institutions.
This year's conference will discuss issues related to risk management in health insurance and mitigating fraud and abuse of health benefits, as they have a negative impact on the quality and cost of insurance and health services.
The Authority’s keenness to host the forum stems from the strong growth of the healthcare insurance market in Oman in recent years. Health insurance currently accounts for the largest insurance segment, with 35.4 per cent of the gross insurance premiums, surpassing all other insurance segments. Gross direct premiums generated by health insurance activity increased by 16.9 per cent to RO 191.517 million in 2022, compared to RO 163.866 in 2021.
Conference deliberations will include a review of the realities of the health insurance market in the Sultanate of Oman and its level of regulatory and supervisory development, in addition to the technological developments and the qualitative shift that the Dhamani electronic platform will bring about in the local market.
The forum is an opportunity for participants to exchange expertise, insights and best practices with regard to mitigating fraud and abuse of health insurance benefits. A number of working papers will be presented during the conference, dealing with best practices based on the use of technology, artificial intelligence, scientific innovations in risk management in health insurance and the legal measures applied in this regard.
