A high-level delegation from the Sultanate of Oman will participate in the G20 Summit in India on September 9 and 10.
The 30-member team will comprise ministers, senior officials, media and diplomatic representatives.
Oman has attended the G20 round of meetings as a special invitee by host country India. Besides Oman, seven other guest countries —the UAE, Egypt, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Singapore and Switzerland -- are attending the G20 Summit.
Speaking to the Observer, Faisal al Nabhani, Director of International Cooperation and Trade Relations at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), said, 'Oman's key interests at the G20 participation are economic cooperation, combat corruption, focus on labour and employment, education and energy etc.' Further, Oman's participation allowed it to engage with G20 countries in setting the global agenda for international cooperation on various topics of international importance.
Recently, Oman attended the Trade & Investment Working Group meeting from August 21 to 23, headed by Faisal al Nabhani.
'We prepared the work before the Trade & Investment Ministerial Meeting. Oman's participation in the meeting was led by Qais al Yousuf, after which the delegation attended the B20 in Delhi. The B20 explored through a series of panel discussions how private companies can contribute to tackling some of the major challenges of our day, including the green energy transition, financial inclusion for sustainable growth and empowering MSMEs.' Oman Vision 2040 and G20: 'The Oman Vision 2040 is the road-map for Oman for the next 20 years. Oman's participation in G20 meetings allowed us to pick up on global trends and the strategic outlook of the world's major economies. This should help in ensuring that Oman's implementation strategy for Oman Vision 2040 is in lockstep with major economies.' 'There are numerous initiatives that get proposed in global international fora, to get a first-row seat at the table and engage with G20 members in discussions that are at the source of many of these initiatives allows Oman to express its views and inform these discussions. It also allows Oman to showcase its development plans, particularly in the green energy space,' said Al Nabhani.
'We thank India for the invitation and hope this experience will give us added impetus in moving forward for the many government entities that participated in the G20 meetings.' 'Around seven ministers from Oman participated in G20 meetings throughout this year. Omani officials from various entities attended approximately 80 G20 meetings in India. We hope that this level of exposure will give us enough material to recalibrate our development activities in line with the global trends we witnessed at G20 and help us move forward in the various fields covered under G20, including education, energy, trade and investment' Faisal said.
Green energy: 'Oman has utilised the G20 platform to promote its national plan in the green energy space and its potential to contribute meaningfully in assisting countries to reach carbon neutrality. Oman's aspiration to become one of the world's largest exporters of green hydrogen was highlighted on several occasions. ' 'Finally, the main message that we want to communicate to the world is that 'Oman is Here' and that we are serious, ready and eager... serious about pursuing one of the world's biggest challenges in reducing carbon emissions by spearheading the green transition by laying the foundation for a game-changing green hydrogen ecosystem and developing new green hydrogen projects. Ready to welcome investments into Oman with a robust investment framework, world-class infrastructure and a transparent legal architecture. Eager to show the world what Oman has to offer, facilitating the process for obtaining visas including for investors and developing large tourism projects and new city projects with sustainability at its core,' Faisal said.
