Defending champions Al Nahda tasted their first victory in the 2023-24 Omantel League after they blanked new arrivals Al Wahda 2-0 at Al Buraimi Sports Complex late on Sunday for the second week matches of the top-tier Oman football league.

After their successful win over Bahrain’s Al Khadiya SC in the AFC Cup play-off last week, coach Hamed al Azni’s Men began the match against Al Wahda strongly as they were looking for their opening triumph in the league.

The new striker of Al Nahda, Salah al Yahyaei, was very close to break the deadlock in the 48th minute as his free kick ball hit the bar. After few missing scoring attempts from Issam al Subhi and Salah al Yahyaei, Hamood al Saadi managed to put Al Nahda in the lead as he netted the opening goal in the 66th minute through header after a cross ball from Mohammed al Shmoosi.

Al Wahda played with 10 players from the 61st minute after the main referee showed a red card to Al Wahda’s player Harmoon after his tough interface with Al Nahda’s Ali Moosa. Later, Al Nahda’s players pressed hard to guarantee their victory and before the match end they doubled as Issam al Subhi struck the second goal in the dying minutes from a penalty kick.

The triumph raised the credit of Al Nahda to four points after their draw against Al Shabab in the opening round, while Al Wahda are placed in the 12th position with no points.

Seeb’s opening victory

Seeb, coached by Brazilian Jorvan Vieira, began their campaign in 2023-24 Omantel League on a winning note after they blanked Al Nasr 1-0 at the Seeb Stadium. The only goal in the match was scored by Seeb striker Marwan Taeeb al Siyabi in the 73rd minute after a perfect cross from Abdulaziz al Maqbali was headed in by Marwan.

The victory meant that the Muscat-based team snatched their first winning points with one match to be played later as Seeb could not take on Ibri in the opening round due to their play-off match in preliminary round of AFC Champions League. Seeb are currently placed fifth with three points while Al Nasr are in the 11th position with no points.
