ROP ensures road safety during Khareef season in Al Wusta

 
With the Khareef Dhofar season significant traffic to the roads of Al Wusta Governorate, Colonel Ahmed bin Rashid al Kasbi, the Assistant Police Commander, reaffirms the commitment of the Royal Oman Police to safeguard the safety and well-being of road users.

To ensure the seamless flow of traffic and assist travellers, five strategically located security checkpoints have been set up along the Adam-Thamrait road and the coastal road in the governorate.

'The safety of citizens, residents, and visitors is our top priority,' says Col Al Kasbi. 'To fulfil this mission, the police leadership has equipped Al Wusta Governorate with a well-trained and highly skilled human force,' he says.

'To facilitate immediate response to emergencies, the police aviation helicopters are on standby, equipped with a complete crew of pilots, technicians, and medical personnel. They can provide necessary medical assistance to the injured before they are transported to the hospital,' Col Al Kasbi adds.

He further commended the cooperation of citizens, residents, and tourists in contributing to maintaining security, and order, and reducing traffic accidents on the roads. He highlighted some common violations observed during the autumn season, such as exceeding the speed limit by more than 200 kilometres per hour, improper overtaking, obscured license plates and rear lights, and attaching cargo trailers to vehicles without proper permission and security measures.

To address these issues, Col Al Kasbi provided essential recommendations for road users, such as ensuring licence plates remain visible and avoiding changes to the vehicle's colour that differ from the original. Drivers were also reminded to seek police assistance promptly if needed by contacting the emergency number (9999) or reaching out to the various security checkpoints available in the governorate.



The security checkpoints in Al Ghafatain (91738459) and Umm Al Zamayim (92084581) areas for any assistance required.

Users of the coastal road can reach the Deepath checkpoint in the Wilayat of Al Jazir at (93250042), the Sarab checkpoint in the Wilayat of Al Duqm at (92469214) and Medairah checkpoint in the Wilayat of Mahout at (93674739).

To ensure a rapid response, the Operations Centre of Al Wusta Governorate Police Command has provided a mobile phone number to receive service requests' coordinates via WhatsApp at (91391703).

Col Kasbi further advised drivers to be cautious of moving sand and accumulations on certain road sections due to active winds, which can reduce visibility and increase the risk of accidents. The police leadership collaborates with the Roads Department of the governorate to continuously clear these areas for safer driving conditions.

Furthermore, he encouraged travellers to take a break and explore the Summer Al Wusta 2023 events in the Wilayat of Haima , which will continue until August 31. These events promise various tourist activities and attractions for all visitors.
