Meeting held to study the effects of green tide phenomenon on water supply

 
The Basic Services Sector Committee held a meeting chaired by Shaikh Dr Mansoor Talib Ali al Hinai, Chairman of Oman's Authority for Public Services Regulation, and in the presence of representatives of the concerned companies and sectors.

During the meeting, the latest developments in the green tide phenomenon that appeared on some coasts of the Sultanate of Oman during the past few days were discussed, which affected water desalination plants. Efforts made by Namaa Water Services and Namaa for Energy and Water Purchasing to reduce the impact of the green tide on the water system and subscribers were reviewed. The committee briefed on the companies' plans to deal with this situation by activating emergency plans according to the procedures manual, operating alternative sources and reserve wells, and activating the interconnection between desalination plants in Suhar, Barka, and Al Ghubra, in anticipation of any water shortage.

The work plan and the precautionary measures to be taken until the seawater quality situation improves during the coming period were also discussed, and the need to unite national efforts in various agencies to ensure the integration of the measures taken by the competent authorities.
