NEW YORK: The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its dedication to 'Oman Vision 2040' and the 'Sustainable Development 2030' goals, which hold great significance to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.
These initiatives reflect the core values deeply ingrained in Omani society, emphasizing principles of peace, coexistence, sustainability, equality, justice, and community engagement.
Dr Mohammed bin Awad Al Hassan, Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations, emphasised Oman's commitment during his speech at the high-level political forum on sustainable development, currently taking place in New York.
Since its endorsement in September 2015, Oman has attached utmost importance to achieving the UN agenda by aligning the national priorities and goals of 'Oman Vision 2040' with the sustainable development objectives of 2030.
The Sultanate aims to achieve zero carbon neutrality by 2050, focusing on renewable energy projects, particularly hydrogen and green hydrogen production, with the vision of becoming a global hub for hydrogen production.
Furthermore, Oman is eager to embrace the era of knowledge, innovation, industry, and infrastructure development, striving to build sustainable cities and communities that align with the country's fundamental system.
Education is considered a fundamental right for every citizen, and Oman encourages the establishment of both public and private educational institutions while maintaining the highest standards of education. Access to higher education is made available to all based on competence and merit.
Dr Al Hassan stressed the Sultanate's unwavering support for scientific research and intellectual creativity, actively encouraging and sponsoring researchers, innovators, and artists. Preserving and promoting tangible and intangible national heritage is considered a national duty, and Oman is committed to recovering any unlawfully taken cultural artifacts.
The permanent representative underscored Oman's stance against attacking or engaging in the illegal trade of the Omani national heritage, firmly stating that such actions are punishable by law. Oman is fully devoted to fulfilling its international and regional obligations to various organisations, as well as friendly and brotherly countries. It diligently implements all ratified agreements, assuming responsibility as an active member of the international community. – ONA
