JABAL AL AKHDAR: The Environment Authority, represented by the Environment Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, has launched the 'Environmental Protectors' programme for its second season in the region. Timed to coincide with the start of the tourist season, the programme aims to foster a sense of responsibility among citizens and tourists alike in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment in the region.
Abdullah bin Sulaiman Al Shaqsi, Head of the Environmental Monitoring Department, Environment Department in Al Dakhiliyah, expressed the program's significance after the remarkable success of its first edition last year. The primary objectives of the initiative are to protect the environmental diversity and preserve the existence of perennial wild trees.
Participants are urged to recognise the value of preserving the environment, refrain from tree cutting, and dispose of waste responsibly. The program also encompasses various measures related to the management of the Green Mountain Reserve and its stunning landscapes.
Following the positive impact of the inaugural edition, Al Shaqsi shared how citizens exhibited increased awareness and a shared sense of responsibility toward preserving the region's natural resources and unique vocabulary.
By educating both citizens and tourists about the consequences of harmful environmental practices, the Department of Environment in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah seeks to cultivate a strong sense of social responsibility in safeguarding wildlife and perennial wild trees like al-Alan and Al Atm. Moreover, efforts are underway to reduce the occurrence of burning perennial trees by regulating grilling activities near these areas.
Jabal Al Akhdar has become a favoured destination for local tourism, and this initiative further highlights the collaborative efforts between government agencies and private sector institutions in enhancing the region's attractions and services for all visitors. Together, they strive to maintain the allure of Jabal Al Akhdar as a harmonious blend of natural wonders and responsible tourism practices. - ONA
