Israeli aggression against Palestinians denounced by GCC countries

Geneva: The GCC countries have affirmed their solidarity with the Palestinian people and their condemnation of all aspects of the Israeli aggression against Palestinians. They stressed the need to protect civilians and called for rapid intervention to stop the violations staged therein.

This was the core essence of the GCC’s collective stance expressed in a statement at the 53rd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva that was held within the context of interactive dialogue on the report of the Special Rapporteur on human rights situation in Palestine and Arab territories occupied since 1967 (Item VII).

The statement was delivered by Ambassador Idris Abdurrahman al Khanjari, the Sultanate of Oman's Permanent Representative to the UN and international organizations in Geneva.

He said that the Israeli occupation forces' continued aggression against the Palestinian people hinders the efforts of the peace process aimed at resolving the Palestinian issue and establishing peace and stability in the Palestinian territories in a manner that guarantees the Palestinian people’s ability to enjoy their legitimate rights.

The GCC countries expressed thanks to the Special Rapporteur for her report. They condemned what the report unearthed in terms of violations of basic rights of Palestinians. They condemned Israel’s 'widescale, systematic deprivation of Palestinians from liberty as a means of tightening control over the occupied territories'. They rejected Israel’s persistent expansion in actions that violate all international laws and resolutions”.

The GCC countries also denounced the pretexts pursued by the Israeli occupation force to violate the rights of the Palestinian people and deprive them of rights that are stipulated in international laws.

They noted that Israel made use of the lack of international accountability for its continued aggression against the Palestinian people, the latest of which was the storming of Jenin city and Jenin camp that targeted civilians, children and women in civilian neighborhoods in a flagrant violation of international conventions and laws.

The GCC countries reaffirmed their unwavering position on the fact that the Palestinian cause constitutes a central issue. They voiced their full support for Palestinian people’s sovereignty over all the Palestinian territories occupied since June 1967, as well as their backing for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and the resolutions of international legitimacy.
