Al RUSTAQ: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) is working to develop the economic sector in South Al Batinah Governorate, in cooperation with the various authorities. In 2022, 26,657 commercial records were registered in the governorate, compared to 23,915 records in 2021, an increase of 11.5 per cent.

Tariq bin Nasser al Harrasi, Director of the Department of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in South Al Batinah Governorate, explained that the governorate enjoys many elements for the growth of the economy and the increase in the volume of investments.

Due to its geographical location in the middle of the governorates of Muscat, North Al Batinah and Al Dakhiliyah, it has all the necessary services and a high population density that qualifies it to attract local and foreign investment opportunities in various sectors, such as the tourism, logistics, manufacturing and fishing sectors.

He said, “The Governorate of South Al Batinah contains Khazaen Economic City in the Wilayat of Barka, which is one of the economic cities that attracts foreign investments as it provides many facilities for investors. There is also the Sandan Industrial City in the Wilayat of Nakhl, which provides many facilities and incentives for various commercial and industrial activities.”

“The Governorate of South Al Batinah is characterised by a unique nature and important historical and archaeological sites, and is a tourist destination in the Sultanate of Oman,” he added.

Oman Vision 2040 works to develop the tourism sector in the governorate, and encourage investment through the establishment of hotels, tourist resorts, and other recreational and tourism facilities.

Al Harrasi said that within the framework of ‘Made in Oman’ campaign, which aims to support the industrial sector and promote national products, the department organised in 2022 four exhibitions of national products in a number of different commercial centres in the governorate.

The ministry seeks to expand the base of national products, in order to enhance local production and marketing of national products in the local and international markets.

He pointed out that the building and construction sector and the export and import offices sector witnessed a great growth in 2022 in South Al Batinah Governorate.

The two sectors had the highest recorded activities, reaching 3,147 activities.

The number of foreign investors registered in 2022 reached 2,486 investors, which reflects the governorate’s attractiveness to foreign investments and the importance of the measures and facilities that have been taken and provided to investors.

Al Harrasi explained that the number of automatic licence applications that were submitted through the ‘Invest Easy’ portal in the governorate reached more than 50,000 applications, since the start of the service in April 2021 until the end of 2022.

This confirms the great demand for this service, stressing that the ‘Invest Easy’ platform contributed to facilitating and accelerating the procedures for establishing and operating companies in Oman.
