Wheat harvesting season in Al Najd concludes with total production of 5,940 tonnes

 
SALALAH: Wheat harvesting operations for season 2022-2023 has come to an end in the Al Najd region in the Wilayat of Thamrait in Dhofar Governorate with a total of 5,940 tonnes of wheat produced.

Engineer Said bin Musallam al Khathiri, Director of Agriculture and Water Resources Department, stated that 5,112 acres were cultivated in this season which lasted for 77 days.



The official pointed to the efforts made by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in cooperation with the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund and Dhofar branch of the Omani Agricultural Society in, to boost wheat acreage in the Al Najd farms in. He stressed the economic and strategic importance of wheat for global food security.

Al Najd is one of the promising regions for wheat cultivation due to the vast agricultural areas and availability of groundwater. The ministry offers many incentives to encourage farmers to expand wheat cultivation and to improve its quality including providing farmers with bio-fortified seeds, the official said.



The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources provided 7 wheat harvesters for different governorates with support from the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund, he concluded. — ONA
