Majlis Ash’shura approves draft public debt law

Majlis Ash’shura approved the draft Law on Public Debt and preferred it to the State Council at its 15th ordinary meeting of the 4th annual sitting held under the auspices of Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Majlis Ash’shura Chairman, on Tuesday.

Earlier the Economic and Financial Committee of Majlis Ash’shura studied the Law on Public Debt and presented its observations and proposals with regard to the law through a report it submitted to the Majlis Ash’shura. Ahmed bin Said al Sharqi, chairman of the committee read out the report before the Majlis during the meeting.

‘The members of Majlis Ash’shura approved the amendments and additions made to the draft laws by the Economic and Financial Committee,’ a press statement from the Majlis Ash’shura stated.

Besides, the members of Majlis Ash’shura were briefed about the draft Law on Protection of Bank Deposit referred to it by the Council of Ministers.

During the meeting, the Majlis Ash’shura also approved the draft Law on Advocacy and Legal Consultation referred to it by the Council of Ministers.

‘Before approving the law, the Majlis Ash’shura’s members voiced their proposals observations over the report of the Law and Legal Committee regarding the draft law read before the Majlis by Dr Mohammed bin Ibrahim al Zedjali, chairman of the committee,’ the statement said.

The Majlis Ash’shura’s members agreed with the committee in several amendments contained in its report. The members presented their observations on the draft law in general before approving it by means of majority voting meaning that the draft law will be sent to the State Council.

Majlis Ash’shura also approved a proposal to set up a fund for supporting sports, cultural and youth activities after being discussed during the session before referring it to the State Council.

The Majlis Ash’shura also discussed reports submitted by its standing committees including a report prepared by the Economic and Financial Committee on an expressed desire regarding the Special Economic Zone at Duqm and the free zones in Suhar, Salalah and Al Mazyunah.

Also discussed was the Information and Culture Committee’s report on the expressed desire regarding the virtual tour of archaeological sites in the Sultanate of Oman, the report of the Food and Water Security Committee on the expressed desire on wheat cultivation in the Sultanate of Oman. The Majlis Ash’shura’s members approved the reports by majority voting.
