Ministry honours outstanding athletes of 2022

Under the patronage of Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth commemorated the exceptional achievements of sports athletes for the year 2022.

The ministry bestowed recognition upon athletes who secured prominent positions and demonstrated outstanding accomplishments, earning gold, silver, and bronze medals in international forums.

Additionally, several sports federations, committees, and the technical and administrative staff were honoured for their invaluable contributions. A total of 293 athletes, 9 sports federations, and 10 sports committees were acknowledged, having achieved a remarkable tally of 196 gold, silver and bronze medals. This tribute pays homage to their unwavering dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence, resulting in remarkable achievements that have proudly raised the flag of the Sultanate of Oman on the international stage.



The ceremony featured a captivating visual presentation showcasing the athletes' achievements in various championships at the global, continental and Arab levels, including the West Asian Championships and regional tournaments.

Basil bin Ahmed al Rowas, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth, emphasised that this commendation solidifies the ministry's commitment to supporting Omani youth and their accomplishments in the sporting domain through international participation, exceptional rankings, and noteworthy achievements. The Sultanate of Oman takes immense pride in bestowing 196 gold, silver and bronze medals, as these achievements signify a source of great pride within the sports realm.

Furthermore, Al Rowas highlighted the ministry's efforts in 2022 to enhance athlete preparation systems. The current vision aims to bolster the endeavours of sports federations and committees by expanding the base of sports practice under their supervision. This initiative is carried out through the 'Athletes Preparation Centres' support programme and the 'Support and Care for Athletes: Promising' programme, which has admitted a number of Omani athletes who fulfilled the admission requirements and possessed the scientific and physical indicators necessary to attain remarkable success at continental and international levels.



In pursuit of a comprehensive database encompassing Omani athletes, which can be utilised to leverage research and scientific advancements in developing athletes' physiological and physical capabilities, an electronic programme to follow up on sports performance' is currently being designed and implemented. The programme's launch is expected in June, providing an extensive record for all athletes in the Sultanate of Oman and delivering crucial data to technical personnel across various sports disciplines. Al Rowas added that this electronic programme will be accessible to all sports organisations, including sports federations, committees, public and private schools and academies.



Hisham bin Juma al Sanani, Director General of Sports Welfare and Development at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, expressed that the celebration of honouring remarkable achievements in the sports field for the year 2022 reflects the tireless efforts of sports federations, committees, and the administrative and technical personnel of various national teams. Their collective dedication has cultivated an environment that motivates athletes to reach their desired goals. This celebration also signifies the high regard shown by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the directives of His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, as emphasised in the pillars of the Omani sports strategy.

Al Sanani further elaborated on the ministry's initiatives, highlighting the launch of several projects and programmes aimed at advancing Omani sports, including strategic programmes such as supporting sports preparation centres, sponsoring promising athletes, developing national technical personnel and establishing an electronic platform for sports performance follow-up.

The ministry's unwavering support, coupled with the development of athlete preparation systems, investment in sports infrastructure, and the implementation of comprehensive programmes, will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth and success of Omani athletes on both regional and international platforms.
