Oman drawn with Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in Cafa Nations Cup

The first ever Central Asian Football Association (Cafa) Nations Cup 2023 group stage is set to be a thrilling tournament following the draw on Wednesday at Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Oman are drawn with Group A hosts Uzbekistan along with Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Group B will see Kyrgyzstan, Islamic Republic of Iran and Afghanistan.
The ‘Red Warriors’ will begin action in the spectacular event with a match against 74th world ranking team Uzbekistan on June 11 while they will meet Tajikistan on June 14 and conclude the group matches against Turkmenistan on June 17. The toppers from Group A will meet the winner of Group B while the second-placed team in Group A will face the same in Group B for the third and fourth play-off fixture.
Taking part in the challenging friendly Asian event will be a significant part of the national team's preparation for the future actions in the 2024 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar and the AFC Asian qualifiers for World Cup in 2026 and AFC Asian Cup. Oman team, under the coaching of Branko Ivankovic, will aim for a different show in the forthcoming regional and continental main events.
The Cafa Nations Cup 2023 will be played from June 10 to 20. The first group matches will be held in Uzbek capital of Tashkent while the following group games will be in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The Red Warriors’ last engagement was in March as the team underwent an intensive internal training camp that lasted for almost 10 days. The camp featured an international friendly game against Lebanon on March 27 which Oman won 2-0. The coaching staff of the national team headed by coach Branko are busy currently monitoring the last stages of the top-tier league ahead of announcing the squad of the next camp. The camp is likely to take place after the completion of the top-tier league on May 15 to gear up for the Central Asian tournament.
