811 prisoners released through Fak Kurba

With eight more prisoners released with the support of Oman Youth Group (Together for Oman), the total number of prisoners got released through the Fak Kurba annual programme rose to 811, according to the members of the Oman Lawyers Association which runs the initiative.
Ran till mid of April, the Fak Kurba is a Programme for securing those who are facing detention or are detained for minor financial offences and is used to save both citizens and expatriates from imprisonment.
The initiative, currently in its 10th edition, has so far released more than 4,969 people who meet the conditions, with the Royal blessings and with the cooperation of institutions and individuals across the country and helped them resume a better life after the release.
Speaking to the Observer, Dr Mohammed al Zadjali, Head of the Initiative, said that this initiative comes under the slogan “Because we believe that a person deserves a second chance,” aims to collect financial donations to release the families of the insolvent in prisons due to claims arising from civil, commercial, sharia, and labour cases.
"We have secured the release of nearly 811 people comprising both citizens and expatriates who are caught in some small financial offences or are facing jail term for minor financial issues, and the release was made possible with the donations from individuals, corporates and the like," Dr Al Zadjali said.
He further added that the tenth edition of the humanitarian initiative is designed within the framework of community synergy, and support for the mission was received through its bank account, its website and through Thawani Pay.
He further added that the Fak Kurba programme aims at relieving humanity from distress for the year 2023, which is adopted by the Omani Lawyers Association, in commitment to divine wisdom, and following the example of the Prophet (PBUH) in extending his oath, and based on synergy and cohesion that characterises the pure Omani soil and the generosity, benevolence and good character of its people. This platform also allows the public to be partners in supporting society and offer to relieve the distress of our brothers, because a person always deserves a second chance.
The initiative which began in 2012 has so far successfully secured the release of more than 4,969 cases of insolvents languishing in prisons. It also contributed to promoting the values of solidarity between individuals and groups and activating the role of institutional partnership and social responsibility between institutions and companies.
