Mohammed al Alawi officiates at WTT Youth Contender Metz

 
MUSCAT: Oman’s blue-badge umpire Mohammed al Alawi is currently busy officiating in the WTT Youth Contender Metz 2023 which is underway in Complex Sportif Saint Symphorien Metz, France. The Oman Table Tennis (OTTA) is very keen on Omani umpires attendance in different regional and international mega TT events as part of developing the national candidates in several fields including refereeing.

The event, which is run by French Federation of Table Tennis, in coordination with WTT, began on Monday and will conclude on Sunday. The selection of Mohammed as an official umpiring team member of this international class event was based on Mohammed’s impressive refereeing records over the years. Mohammed, who hails from Ibri, is among two Omani umpires who received blue badge in March 2022 during WTT Youth Contender Sulaymaniyah event. He completed in last November Basic Referee Course for West Asia Region in Lebanon on main refereeing tasks and rules during any international event. Beside that, Al Alawi attended in different regional and continental table tennis championships including his attendance in the Asian Table Tennis Championship in 2021 in Doha, Qatar, WTT Youth Contender in Cairo, Egypt in October 2022.

The seven days event of thrilling action in Metz city, France featured many competitions including singles events for boys and girls in Under-19, U17, U15, U13 and U11. Many top world ranking champions are taking part in the event including India's Divyanshi Bhowmick, France's Lisa Zhao and China's Zong Geman. Al Alawi officiated several games in different events including the group stages and some matches in the knockout stages.

Chinese Zong Geman grabbed the title in U17 girls singles category after defeating compatriot Qin Yuxuan 3-0 in the final while the tough competitions are ongoing in the U19 girls singles and other categories. Chinese Xu Yi beat French Gateane Bled 3-0 to move into quarterfinals of U19 girls singles, while South Korea's Park Gahyeon defeated France's Agathe Avezou 3-1 to progress to the same round.
