Barakat, Mazoon emerge fastest as final round of OAA League concludes

MUSCAT: The Oman Athletics Association (OAA) concluded the expanded edition of OAA League competition in its fifth and last round late on Saturday at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.
The event was part of the OAA’s preparatory plans for the national runners and athletes to shape their readiness for the forthcoming regional and international assignments in the next period and to explore new and potential athletes.
Oman's star sprinter Barakat al Harthy raced in 100 metres distance running competition for senior level. He clocked 10.39 seconds to win the race. Ali bin Anwar al Balushi took the second place in a timing of 10:40 seconds while Mohammed bin Obiad al Saadi was third in a time of 10.47 seconds.
In the 100 metres hurdles, Khalfan al Jabri bagged the gold in a time of 14:94 seconds while Faisal al Azki came in second with a time of 15.15 seconds for senior level. In the 400 metres run for senior level, Osama al Ghailani finished the race in first place with a timing of 48.83 seconds while Dawood al Hamadani came in second at 49.15 seconds. Majid al Jahdhami emerged champion of the 800 metres run with a timing of 1 minute 54.99 seconds. Abdullah al Quraini won first place in the 1,500 metres as he cleared the distance in a timing of 3 minutes 57.07 seconds. In 200 metres, Mohammed al Saadi finished in first place as he clocked 20.93 seconds.
In long jump competitions for seniors, Salim al Yarubi bagged first place as he cleared 7.49 metres while Humaid al Mahruqi was the champion for the javelin competitions. Fatik Abulghafoor claimed the gold in the long jump competition as he cleared 2.10 metres while Loai al Omrani won first place in the shot put competition.
Mubeen al Kindi won the gold in the hammer throw as he registered a mark of 55 metres in the senior level competition while his rival Muhannad al Omrani ended as runner-up with a mark of 47.41 metres.
MAZOON WINS 100M
In the ladies open category, Oman’s fastest woman sprinter Mazoon al Alawi bagged gold in 100 metres run with a timing of 12.06 seconds while Azza al Yarubi came in second with a timing of 12.38 seconds and Hajer al Habsi finished third (12.78 secs).
Hanaa al Qasmi won the women’s 800 meters run with a time of 2 minutes 25.76 seconds. Azza al Yarubi claimed the top place in women’s 200 metres run with a timing of 25.50 seconds.
Asad al Hosni, Secretary-General of OAA, said in a statement that the OAA has improved the domestic competition.
“The OAA League comprised five rounds and the top three results will be taken into account among the five rounds. The league was open for different levels including senior, ladies, U21, U19 and junior levels. The competitions were in different categories including running, long jump, javelin, shot put, hammer throw and other competitions,” he added.
Mazoon al Alawi, who represented Oman for second successive participation in the last Olympics Games in Tokyo, said the competitions were very tough. “I am very glad with my record in this round of the competition as I broke my previous record and registered 12.06. I am looking to register a record in the forthcoming participation,” she said.
