Tourism ministry opens Qurna Qaid mosque in Samayil

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism inaugurated Qurna Qaid Mosque in Samayil following restoration work over the last year and a half.

The mosque was inaugurated under the auspices of Shaikh Sultan bin Ali al Nuaimi, Wali of Samayil, and in the presence of several dignitaries.

The mosque, located at a height of approximately 3 metres above the ground, consists of the main prayer hall, and a platform of 30 square metres. The interior includes a mihrab, columns with architectural arches, four windows, and two entrances from the side of the edifice; the outer structure consists of a seating bench, with stairs on both sides.

The mosque is also equipped with an audio system and internal and external loudspeakers, in addition to all the necessary services and amenities.

The restoration and maintenance work was undertaken in several stages, including documentation and photography, cleaning and consolidation work and preparation of drawings for the restoration work, taking into account the preservation of architecture and style in which the mosque was built, as well as the use of traditional building materials, like stones and clay that constituted 70 per cent of the materials. — ONA
