Value of fish output in Oman tops RO 423 million

MUSCAT: The total value of fish production in Oman at the end of 2022 reached RO 423.56 million, according to the initial statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) Fish production declined by of 21.9 per cent with 718,726 tonnes, compared to 920,241 tonnes in 2021, with a value of RO 420.92 million.
NCSI indicated that the highest amount of fish landed by artisanal fishing at the end of December 2022 came from Al Wusta Governorate, where it recorded 245,895 tonnes, followed by the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate with 206,558 tonnes. North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah governorates recorded 206,558 tonnes and 71,639 tonnes respectively. Dhofar Governorate produced 68,968 tonnes. The governorates of Musandam and Muscat produced 36,862 tonnes and 34,967 tonnes.
The total amount of fish landed by artisanal fishing decreased by type to 664,890 tonnes, or by 23.6 per cent by the end of December 2022, compared to 869, 968 tonnes in 2021. Small surface fish recorded the highest amount of fish landed by artisanal fishing by quality with 348,385 tonnes, followed by large surface fish recording 165,636 tonnes.
The total quantities landed in coastal fishing amounted to about 5,062 tonnes, up by 8.5 per cent at the end of December 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, when it amounted to 4,665 tonnes. The quantities of fish landed in commercial fishing increased to 48,774 tonnes, or by 6.9 per cent compared to the same period in 2021, which amounted to 45,608 tonnes. — ONA
