N Al Batinah Educational team lifts Omantel School League title

The North Al Batinah Educational team defeated their neighbours South Al Batinah Educational team 3-2 in penalties to lift the first edition title of Omantel Schools League 2022-23. The regulation time ended in a goalless draw in the thrilling final.
The title triumph was a reward for the team’s impressive show during the six days league. Dhofar Educational team finished third.
In the concluding ceremony, Major General Khalifa bin Ali al Siyabi, Assistant Inspector General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at ROP Police and Customs, chief guest of the match, gave away the bronze medals and cash prize award to the Salalah-based team while South Al Batinah team received silver medals and the runners-up cash prize. The Suhar-based team captured the league crown, gold medals and the first place cash prize.
At the individual awards, both sides of the final match grabbed most of the awards as Abdullah al Farsi from North Al Batinah Educational team claimed the top-scorer prize. Salim al Hashami from North Al Batinah Educational team became the most valuable player in the league. Goalkeeper Rashid al Ghafri from Al Dhahirah Educational team got the best goalkeeper award.
The first edition of Omantel Schools League resulted with many outstanding technical outputs including the potential faces from different participating teams in the league. Also, the league was attended and witnessed by the national coaching staff of the Under-17 national team besides a dedicated technical committee which was responsible for evaluating the players’ performance during the league matches.
Crucial Triumph
Khalid al Shibli, the head coach of the winners, said: “I am delighted with this achievement by winning the first place award in the Omantel Schools League. The crucial triumph came after preparing for a long time and the boys delivered top performance during the group stage and then in the knockout stage. The team was nominated by majority after the solid show,” he added.
“The tournament was not easy for all the teams, especially in the quarterfinals and semifinals. Majority of the teams have prepared very well for the league and went in different stages of technical preparations besides the internal tournaments for schools at the governorate level. In the final clash, the boys monitored the game strongly and managed to clinch the title,” he ended.
As many as 12 teams representing 200 students and sports teachers took part in the Omantel School Football League. The event was organised under and run by Oman Schools Sports Association (OSSA). As sidelines of the league, many events took place including sports festivals for over 40 sports teachers from Muscat Education governorate. The first festival was held at Seeb Stadium on Thursday and then at Al Amerat Club on Saturday and the concluding festival at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on Monday.
