Omani Khanjar added to UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Paris: The Sultanate of Oman has received the certificate of listing Al Khanjar (the Omani dagger) in UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

This came when UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay received in Paris on Wednesday Dr Hamad Saif al Hammami, Oman's Permanent Representative to the UNESCO.

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, in cooperation with the Omani National Commission for Education, Science and Culture and the Office of the Permanent Representative to UNESCO, managed to include Al Khanjar, craft skills and social practice, in UNESCO list during the seventeenth session of the intergovernmental committee for the safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage, held in Morocco last December.
