MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Tourism, will take part in the International Tourism Exchange (ITB Berlin) which will kick off on Tuesday and lasts for three days.
The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation is headed by Salim bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism.
The Sultanate of Oman’s pavilion will highlight the country’s unique tourism potentials in different governorates with the participation of a number of institutions and companies seeking to promote the Sultanate of Oman internally in cooperation with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
The exhibition will witness bilateral meetings between Omanis specializing in the tourism industry and international tourism stockholders with the aim of promoting tourism exchange. ITB Berlin is the largest such exhibition in the world, it brings together countries, destinations, tour operators and travel and tourism agents.
This edition of ITB Berlin comes as the tourism sector is recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Official data shows that the Sultanate of Oman received around 2.9 million visitors by the end of December 2022, an increase of 348.2 per cent compared to the same period of 2021, while total hotel revenues amounted to RO 186 million.
The tourism sector greatly contributes to the government’s economic diversification efforts and the gross domestic product of the Sultanate of Oman.
The Sultanate of Oman is eying RO 3 billion in investments in the tourism sector between 2021 and 2023. The ministry is currently investing approximately RO 1.7 billion in various tourism projects. — ONA
