MUSCAT: Majlis Ash’shura approved the draft biometrics law forwarded by the government and decided to refer it to the State Council.
Dr. Hamad bin Hamdan al Rabie, head of the Legislative and Legal Committee read out the draft law before the council.
Majlis Ash’shura convened its sixth ordinary meeting of the fourth annual session (2022-2023) under the chairmanship of Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, on Monday.
The meeting saw enhanced discussion among the council members over the draft law as the Legislative and Legal Committee stated its visions and observations about the law.
The council approved a request of the discussion presented to Dr. Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education regarding qualifying and appointing the graduates of educational colleges, and decided to refer the request to the Council of Ministers.
Dr Hamad bin Hamdan al Rabie delivered an urgent statement regarding the state-owned Al Namaa Poultry in which he said: “After less than five years since its foundation, the company began to collapse, it halted its operations and dismissed its workers. If you go to the company’s headquarters you will see only the security guard.”
In his statement, the member said: “The foundation of a giant national project by the name of Al Namaa Poultry in the Wilayat of Ibri in Al Dhahirah Governorate in 2017 was associated with media frenzy being one of the biggest food security projects not only in the Sultanate of Oman but the whole region at a cost of RO 106 million. It is a partnership between private companies, investment funds and retirement funds in addition to Oman Food Investment Holding.”
Such a large project should have been preceded by several feasibility studies that weighed the pros and cons and the risks that would face the project, he said.
In his statement, Al Rabie raised many questions about the reason for project failure, calling for the government to urgently protect the project from failing and put it back on track by forming a committee entrusted with investigating the reasons that led to the current situation.
