11 teams to compete in Muscat Nights show jumping

For the first time at Qurum Natural Park, 11 teams holding the names of governorates of the Sultanate of Oman will compete in two days of show jumping championship as part of the Muscat Nights activities.

The competitions will be held during January 19-20, it was announced at a press conference on Monday.

Ahmed al Abri, Secretary of the Oman Equestrian Federation (OEF), said: “The show jumping sport is one of the ancient sports, which is an Olympic sport and has received wide attention by His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth.”

Al Abri mentions this partnership between the OEF and the Oman Olympic Equestrian Centre is a continued joint cooperation between the two sides.

“Today, it was renewed by involving Muscat Municipality to come out with a competition under the name Muscat Nights show jumping championship which will be at Qurum Natural Park for the first time on the grassy ground. The place has been inspected and necessary improvements will be made to ensure the success of the event,” Al Abri said.

“We know that moving any event outside usual places will be difficult, but with solidarity, all the difficulties have been overcome, thanks to the Olympic Equestrian Centre, Muscat Municipality, and all those who contributed to the work.”

Al Abri pointed out that the Oman Olympic Committee will provide a number of mobile stables, square barriers and competition barriers. Muscat Municipality will also work to provide lighting as the competition will be in the evening to ensure the presence of the fans.

DRAW ON JAN 16

Sultan al Touqi, a representative of the Olympic Equestrian Centre, talked about the technical aspects of the competition. He said the rounds will be similar to those that existed with the addition of a category for the first time. Each team will consist of three riders.

The draw for the championship riders will be held on January 16 at the OEF headquarters in presence of show jumping judges at 10.30 am. The teams under the name of the governorates will be formed during the draw.

The first day’s (January 19) competitions will include the round of Al Rayyan Stables League for Future Knights (minor category 12-17 years) and the run of Al Rayyan Stables League for Future Knights (the grand category 18-21 years).

Al Touqi said that riders and horses classified from the beginning of the season at heights of 90, 100, 110 and 120 cm can participate in this round for the governorates.

On the second day (January 20), Al Touqi explained that there are four categories for the Al Rayyan Stables League round for the future riders (the youngest category 12-17 years old) (100-110 cm), (the senior category 18-21 years old) (110-120 cm). The small category has a height of 110 cm, the medium category has a height of 120 cm, and the large category has a height of 130 cm, all with cash awards. The horse classification system will be applied so that each horse participates in the category in which it is classified from the beginning of the season while allowing promotion to the top in the event that it finishes two rounds at its current level with a number not exceeding 16 penalty points.

The third day of the championship will be held at the show jumping field at Al Rahba Farm on January 27. There will be eight categories, namely the 70 cm category, 90 cm category and 100 cm category, all with financial prizes.
