Muscat: Recently, a Royal Decree was issued that fixed the official holidays in a calendar year, which will help both citizens and residents to plan their travel and holidays in advance.
With air ticket fares and hotel room rates likely to shoot up as the date of the travel nears, knowing the holidays in advance will help people to save time as well the last-minute travel-related hassles.
The first public holiday of the year 2023, will be on January 11 (His Majesty the Sultan’s Accession Day), followed by Al Isra’a Wal Miraj (Rajab 27) on February 18, Eid Al Fitr (29th day of the month of Ramadan) from April 20-21, Eid Al Adha (from Dhul-Hijjah 9 until the 12th of the same month) on June 28, Hijri New Year’s Day (Muharram) on July 18 or 19, The Prophet’s Birthday (Rabee Al Awwal) on September 26 or 27 and the National Day holidays (November 18 and 19).
If any of the days of the weekly off coincides with the abovementioned holidays, it shall be compensated by a single day.
The dates of the abovementioned holidays may be amended if the public interest so dictates.
'Knowing public holiday dates in advance would be really helpful to plan holidays and block leaves in advance. This would also be helpful to save some money as whenever we book air tickets just before the travel date, it costs a bomb. Now, we can book travel tickets in advance for a decent fare,' Nisar Moideen, a resident from India, told Observer.
