Oman national team all set for 25th Arabian Gulf Cup

 
Muscat: The Oman national football team delegation will leave for Iraqi city of Basra on January 2 to participate in the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup to be held from January 6 to 19, 2023.

Muhsin bin Hamad al Massan, Vice-President of the Oman Football Association, heads the Oman delegation which consists of 50 people.

Oman national football team currently resides in Dubai, and they will play an international friendly match against Syria on December 30.

Oman will begin their campaign against the host Iraq team, after the opening ceremony which will be at 7:45 am Basra local time.

In the second match, Oman will meet Yemen on January 9 at 5:15 pm at Basra Stadium and the third match will be against Saudi Arabia on January 12 at 7 pm.



Basra ready for opening

On the other hand, a member of the Iraq Football Association, Vice-Chairman of the Committee for the Arabian Gulf Cup 2023, Mohammed Nasser, confirmed that the organising committee has completed all the arrangements related to the opening of the 25th edition of the tournament, and the main stadiums are fully prepared.

“The Gulf Cup matches will be held in three main stadiums. The Basra Sports City Stadium with a wonderful architectural design can accommodate 60,000 fans. The second stadium can accommodate 10,000 spectators, and the third one the International Port Stadium, which will be opened for the tournament can accommodate more than 30,000 spectators. The press conferences for the teams will start on January 5, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Yemen Football Association has asked the Oman Football Association to release Yemeni player Abdul Waseeh al Matari, who plays professionally in the Omani club, to join the Yemen team in Egypt, in preparation for the Gulf Cup.
