125 Omanis benefit from training support under India’s ITEC programme this year

Around 125 training slots have been made available by the Indian government to Omanis this year as part of the ‘Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation (ITEC)’ programme.

This was revealed by Indian Ambassador Amit Narang at a function marking ITEC Day at the embassy premises on December 13, 2022. Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

In opening remarks, Ambassador Narang said: “The ITEC programme that we are celebrating today is a manifestation of this ancient philosophy of India, which emphasizes not just acquisition but sharing of knowledge on the same footing.

Under the ITEC programme, India shares its knowledge and know-how for capacity building of other developing countries. It is however, not a one-way or a top-down process. It is a collaborative process in which India also gains by the sharing of knowledge and experience that this process facilitates.”

Around 100 people attended the reception. They included ITEC alumni from Oman, comprising officials and professionals from diverse sectors who have participated in various training courses in India under ITEC program during previous years.

Ambassador Narang stressed India’s commitment to helping the Sultanate of Oman achieve the objectives of ‘Oman Vision 2040’, The ITEC programme has been enthusiastically subscribed to by hundreds of Omani officials and has not only facilitated specialised training and skill upgradation but also acted as a bridge to connect Indian and Omani people, he said.

Launched in September 1964, the ITEC programme is an initiate to support capacity building of friendly developing countries. Since its inception, more than 200,000 professionals from more than 160 countries have benefited from ITEC courses. Today, India provides over 14000 scholarships covering a diverse range of subjects from traditional areas like agriculture, SMEs, management, English language to IT, Science & Technology, and biotechnology, among other areas.
