The role of grandparents in the success of a child is often not recognised. In fact, commonly these days, they remain in the background only silently celebrating the achievements of their grandchildren which would have not been possible without their important inputs.

Other than being playmates and caretakers to their grandchildren, grandparents are important role models and mentors for the younger generations having paved the easier way for those that follow in their footsteps.

They are great pillars of support when a family issue pops up, they are source of solutions and are also historians who teach values, instil heritage and pass on family traditions to the generation next.

The kindergarten section and the section for Children with Special Needs at a school recently hosted all grandparents and honoured them for the path they covered in life, for the values they instilled in their children and grandchildren and for being the umbrella for the family for their life.

Al Injaz Private School celebrated the life of grandparents as they are a family’s greatest treasure, the founders of a loving legacy, the greatest storytellers, and the keepers of traditions as part of the Grandparents Day on October 24.

“Just like parents, grandparents love unconditionally, which helps a child feel safe and secure. The benefits go both ways and relationships such as these can help grandparents have happier and longer lives. Grandparents help teach family culture, tradition and history,” said Radhwan al Hasani, Principal

It was a sight to behold as the tiny tots welcomed their grandparents. The children were excited to showcase their love for their grandparents, which was evident on their faces while they performed various events. The exemplary performance of the students of Kindergarten and Section for Special Needs on various songs and poems tied the entire show and left everyone spellbound with cheerful faces.

“It is the grandparents who help us connect ourselves with our roots and help us understand more about who we are and where we came from. We are an accumulation of generations past, and sometimes learning more about them can unearth similarities and clear up things about ourselves,” added Amita Sharma, Director.

The teachers said that the role of grandparents in family life is ever-changing as they play many roles, from mentor, to historian, to loving companion and to child-care provider. Their grandchildren will be inherited with a sense of security of belonging to the extended family as the strong intergenerational connections nurtured by their grandparents is really powerful.

The event culminated with more joyous moments as the tiny tots showed their grandparents their School, and their parents captured these moments on the camera.
